Nonequilibrium charge-density-wave order beyond the thermal limit

چکیده

Abstract The interaction of many-body systems with intense light pulses may lead to novel emergent phenomena far from equilibrium. Recent discoveries, such as the optical enhancement critical temperature in certain superconductors and photo-stabilization hidden phases, have turned this field into an important research frontier. Here, we demonstrate nonthermal charge-density-wave (CDW) order at electronic temperatures greater than thermodynamic transition temperature. Using time- angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy time-resolved X-ray diffraction, investigate structural parameters ultrafast photoinduced CDW-to-metal transition. Tracking dynamical CDW recovery a function reveals behaviour markedly different equilibrium, which attribute suppression lattice fluctuations transient phonon distribution. A complete description system’s coherent incoherent order-parameter dynamics is given by time-dependent Ginzburg-Landau framework, providing access potential energy surfaces.

Thermal rounding of the charge-density-wave depinning transition.

The rounding of the charge density wave depinning transition by thermal noise is examined. Hops by localized modes over small barriers trigger “avalanches”, resulting in a creep velocity much larger than that expected from comparing thermal energies with typical barriers. For a field equal to the T = 0 depinning field, the creep velocity is predicted to have a power-law dependence on the temper...

Field-induced spin-density wave beyond hidden order in URu2Si2

URu2Si2 is one of the most enigmatic strongly correlated electron systems and offers a fertile testing ground for new concepts in condensed matter science. In spite of >30 years of intense research, no consensus on the order parameter of its low-temperature hidden-order phase exists. A strong magnetic field transforms the hidden order into magnetically ordered phases, whose order parameter has ...

Nonequilibrium "melting" of a charge density wave insulator via an ultrafast laser pulse.

We employ an exact solution of the simplest model for pump-probe time-resolved photoemission spectroscopy in charge-density-wave systems to show how, in nonequilibrium, the gap in the density of states disappears while the charge density remains modulated, and then the gap reforms after the pulse has passed. This nonequilibrium scenario qualitatively describes the common short-time experimental...

Segregation and charge-density-wave order in the spinless Falicov-Kimball model

The spinless Falicov-Kimball model is solved exactly in the limit of infinite dimensions on both the hypercubic and Bethe lattices. The competition between segregation, which is present for large U, and chargedensity-wave order, which is prevalent at moderate U, is examined in detail. We find a rich phase diagram that displays both of these phases. The model also shows nonanalytic behavior in t...

Stripe and Short Range Order in the Charge Density Wave of 1T-Cu_{x}TiSe_{2}.

We study the impact of Cu intercalation on the charge density wave (CDW) in 1T-Cu_{x}TiSe_{2} by scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy. Cu atoms, identified through density functional theory modeling, are found to intercalate randomly on the octahedral site in the van der Waals gap and to dope delocalized electrons near the Fermi level. While the CDW modulation period does not depend o...
